Farmer. Designer. Curator.

I am a born Vermonter. My father was the county large animal veterinarian – hence my love for animals and an interest in sustainable farming. I met my one and only on the first day of college and haven’t taken my claws out since.

Upon graduation, we moved to New York City for 10 years where I worked in consulting and banking. A transfer to London for my husband’s work “forced” early retirement upon me. I started our family as I fell deeply in love with travel and living abroad. My bucket list includes living as an expat at least 2 more times after the kids finish high school.

Upon our unexpected return to the States in 2002, I started my first design company whereby I took clients from Greenwich, CT (our new home) to London to source a collection of antiques and modern furniture for their homes. My clients and I worked together to incorporate new treasures from Europe into their spaces as we updated and edited. And that marks the beginning of my adventure and love for design.

Fast forward 4 babies, later and I tucked the passport in my desk drawer so I could be local for my family. I opened an interior design company with a dear friend. Together we grew a business catering to sophisticated clientele who were looking to redesign or start-from-scratch designing their homes. This work kept me busy and taught me the design business. Many of my accounts and vendors are the very same professionals with whom I got started all those years ago. I take great pride in maintaining these relationships, and I continue to visit these accounts and update my repertoire each month when I go back to NYC for work (did I say work? I meant play).

We moved back to Vermont in 2017. No one thought I would do it, despite the fact I had openly been manifesting it for 15 years. It wasn’t always pretty. Kids were pulled out of schools they loved. A husband still worked in Manhattan. A house needed to be sold in Connecticut in order to buy a farm in Vermont. We can talk about all that later, but the important takeaway is that we did it.

We have overhauled a once fallow farm on Lake Champlain into an operating agricultural business. We currently have 12 sheep, 2 llamas, 1 goat, 13 chickens, 4 cows, and 30,000 bees. I completed my flagship design project, Stoneledge – A Modern Farmhouse, and am now focused on designing for others and outfitting several boutique Airbnbs using my collection of housewares.

Please contact me to discuss the farm, my interior design work, or to hear more about my foray into curated, boutique Airbnbs.

My aesthetic is authentic. I create rooms and homes that radiate warmth and reflect family life, creating a “feeling” but never confined by a “look.” I tend toward neutral backgrounds and layer texture and color by using soft furnishings and accessories. I love books. I love tribal. And I’m not afraid of wallpaper.

Travel is an integral part of my process as I collect and incorporate original (but not necessarily precious) art and artifacts into the spaces I create. Sometimes my travel is across the lake and into musty old estate sales. Sometimes I am lucky enough to find my way to the markets in Istanbul or Marrakech.

I approach every project the same way: I begin with a complimentary get-to-know-me-get-to-know-you meeting at the client’s home. I take notes. I take pictures. I try to discern the priorities for the client. I also keep a separate list of the priorities for me in case the homeowner doesn’t know where to begin. Nothing happens before we talk about the reality of a budget and a timeframe.

I design in the real world for real people with real budgets. My goal is to maximize design value without sacrificing aesthetic.
